From 1 July 1999, only those passengers travelling to non-EU countries are eligible to purchase tax-free tobacco products and alcohol. However, passengers travelling within the EU may still purchase other items.
From 1 January 2003, new allowances apply to the import of alcohol and tobacco products to Sweden:
Travel within the EU
- 10 litres of spirits
- 20 litres of fortified wine
- 90 litres of wine
- 110 litres of beer
- 400 cigarettes or 200 cigarillos or 100 cigars or 550 grams of smoking tobacco
Travel beyond the EU
- 1 litre of spirits or 2 litres of fortified wine or sparkling wine
- 2 litres of wine
- 14 litres of beer
- 200 cigarettes or 100 cigarillos or 50 cigars or 250 grams of smoking tobacco
NOTE: Alcohol may only be imported by persons over the age of 20. Tobacco products may only be imported by persons over the age of 18.
