Kronoberg County Council has a 55-per-cent shareholding in Smaland Airport, while the Municipality of Växjö has a 42-per-cent stake and the Municipality of Alvesta has a three-per-cent stake. The airport is managed as a municipal limited company. The goal of its owners is to provide a good infrastructure for air travel in the region at low cost.

The airport plays an important part in the growth of the region. Global trade requires rapid links with the rest of the world. For many companies the airport was an essential factor for their presence in the region. Scheduled flights to Stockholm give residents of the county quick access to Europe and the world beyond.
